The Chongming Dongtan Nature Reserve is located in the middle of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and has unique ecological functions. It is an indispensable stopover site for waterbirds. Currently, during the migratory season, species like the great knot and black-tailed godwit will make brief stops at Chongming Dongtan to refuel before continuing their journey to northern breeding grounds. Some migratory birds will also stay in Chongming Dongtan to breed, such as the saunders’s gull, black-winged stilt, and kentish plover.
